Help us care, train and reach more people

Choose where your gift goes: caring for patients with no family, training new mental health staff, freeing patients from chains, or supporting our research.

No one is funding this work but you.

Habeeb receives no support from the government, from NGOs, or from international partners. Apart from charitable gifts during the month of Ramadan, every month of care for our patients depends on people like you.

Care for 100+ patients who have no family

Ongoing · every month

Care for 100+ patients who have no one else

At Habeeb Psychiatric Hospital, more than 100 of our inpatients live with schizophrenia and disabilities and have no family to look after them. Many were found alone on the streets. With us they are safe, treated and fed, and we are the only family they have.

Every month, each of them needs medicine, a safe place to live, and food. Your gift keeps that care going.

Beyond them, around 2,000+ patients are treated and supported at our outpatient centres every month, and 87% of our inpatients cannot afford the monthly fee for the care we provide. Your support keeps our doors open to everyone who needs care.

Train our second batch of 50 mental health staff

Our first batch of 30 women completed three months of training in primary care for mental health. Now we want to train 50 more staff, so more clinics and communities have people who can recognize mental illness early, support patients, and refer them to care.

Outreach

Help us reach families who chain patients in rural areas

In rural Somalia, some families still chain or lock up relatives living with mental illness, often because there is no care nearby and they do not know it can be treated. Our outreach team travels to these communities to meet families, explain that mental illness is treatable, and bring patients to care with dignity.

Support our ongoing research studies

Very little research on mental health comes from Somalia. Our team is running studies to understand mental illness in our communities and to improve the care we give. Your support helps us collect data, train researchers, and publish our findings so others can learn from them.
